Life Buoy Enters Guinness World Book of Records ….Donates N10m to Schools

Having created a platform where over 37, 809 school children gathered together to wash hands simultaneously at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, the Life Buoy health soap brand from the stables of Unilever Nigeria Plc, which initiated this unique feat in a bid to encourage hand washing as a means of combating diarrhea, has earned for itself a place in the prestigious Guinness World Book of Records for  the  world  record  of  most  people  washing  hands at the same time in one location in order to promote hygiene.

Appreciating  the recognition accorded the brand  by  the  Guinness World  Record,  Brand  Building  Director, Unilever Nigeria, Mr. David Okeme  described Life Buoy’s entry into the Guinness World Book of Records as one of the most significant entries coming out of Nigeria in recent times. He said  “we  created  the  hand  washing  platform  to  drive  awareness  of  an  inexpensive  habit of  hand washing  that  will  drastically  reduce occurrence of diarrhea and other related sicknesses. This habit has the capacity to greatly reduce infant mortality rate among children less than five years”

Highlighting some of the initiatives employed to defeat diarrhea, Mr. Okeme said another target Unilever set was to achieve five million people pledging to defeat diarrhea through regular hand washing, it was tagged “Africa’s Biggest Pledge to Defeat Diarrhea” and it had over 7 million people pledging to defeat diarrhea.
This achievement, according to Mr. Okeme has led Unilever to donate ten million naira among the six hundred schools that participated in the hand washing event on the 14th of October. The schools he revealed will be furnished with Washing Points that will improve the habits of hand washing and the sanitary conditions of the environment.

He added that “Interventions like these are close to our hearts and show the sort of values that drive Unilever as an organization. About a million units of Life Buoy soap have been handed free of charge to Nigerians as part of our commitment to driving awareness and taking steps to embed the hand washing habit in Nigerians”.
“Life Buoy as a brand, is addressing an area of significant need, an area that is about life. Life Buoy as a brand is formulated with the ingredients that kill germs that cause diseases. When you wash your hands with Life Buoy, you are guaranteed maximum protection for 12 hours”.
